How a Conversation with Rocky Haag Reminded Me Why We Are Here

    By Ana-Rita Valente

There are conversations that fill time.

There are conversations that generate content.

And then there are conversations that stop you in your tracks and remind you who you are.

My conversation with Rocky Haag did exactly that.

As the founder of The Legendary Edition and host of the Becoming Legendary Podcast, I have had the privilege of interviewing extraordinary people from around the world. Survivors. Entrepreneurs. Authors. Doctors. Visionaries. People who have risen from the ashes of addiction, grief, abuse, illness, bankruptcy, and reinvention.

Again and again, I discover the same truth:

The most legendary people are not those who have lived perfect lives.

They are the people who continue to choose hope.

Rocky Haag is one of those people.

When we first connected, I expected an interesting conversation.

What I didn’t expect was to encounter a man whose mind moves effortlessly between faith, philosophy, business, human behavior, culture, leadership, and the future of humanity itself.

At first glance, Rocky is difficult to categorize.

    He is an entrepreneur.

    A writer.

    A speaker.

    A strategist.

A man deeply involved in political ecosystems.

    A believer.

    A student of history.

    An advocate for personal responsibility.

But reducing him to any single title would miss the essence of who he is.

Because what Rocky truly offers is perspective.

In a world driven by noise, fear, outrage, and division, Rocky repeatedly returns to a simple but powerful question:

What kind of human being are we becoming?

That question stayed with me long after our conversation ended.

Because, if I am honest, it is the same question I have been asking throughout my own life.

I have reinvented myself many times.

I have been an international DJ performing around the world.

I have lived across different continents and cultures.

    I have built businesses.

    Lost businesses.

    Fallen in love.

    Lost people I loved.

    Started again.

    And started again.

    And started again.

I have survived panic attacks so severe that I believed I was dying.

    I have navigated addiction.

    Loss.

    Heartbreak.

The unbearable weight of having to make impossible decisions.

I have rebuilt myself from nothing more times than I can count.

And perhaps that is why Rocky’s message resonated so deeply.

Because beneath the conversations about leadership, AI, faith, entrepreneurship, and identity lies something much more universal:

    Hope.

Hope that who you have been does not determine who you can become.

Hope that failure can become fuel.

Hope that purpose still exists in an increasingly chaotic world.

Hope that we are capable of building lives that matter.

Throughout our conversation, Rocky spoke passionately about identity.

About understanding who you are before becoming consumed by what you do.

In today’s society, many people derive their worth from productivity.

    From titles.

    From followers.

    From achievements.

    From external validation.

    But external validation is unstable.

    The algorithm changes.

    The market changes.

    The economy changes.

    Life changes.

And if your identity depends entirely on those things, you will spend your entire life chasing certainty in places where certainty does not exist.

Rocky reminded me that identity must be rooted more deeply.

As a woman who has worked in coaching, branding, visibility, and personal development, I see this every day.

    People do not lack potential.

    They lack permission.

    Permission to believe in themselves.

    Permission to take up space.

    Permission to reinvent.

    Permission to dream again.

    They forget who they are.

One of the exercises I often share with my clients is creating what I call a Board of Achievements.

    Not a vision board.

    A board of evidence.

Moments that prove who you truly are.

    Times when you survived.

    Succeeded.

    Persevered.

    Stood back up.

Because imposter syndrome cannot survive in the presence of evidence.

And evidence reminds us that we are far stronger than we think.

Rocky’s message aligns beautifully with this philosophy.

Because at its core, his work is about helping people remember their worth.

    Not through empty motivation.

    Not through toxic positivity.

    But through responsibility.

    Curiosity.

    Faith.

    Community.

And the willingness to continue growing.

One of the most fascinating aspects of our conversation revolved around technology.

Artificial intelligence is transforming the world at an extraordinary pace.

Many people approach these changes with fear.

Others approach them with blind optimism.

    Rocky offered something different.

    Discernment.

He spoke about embracing innovation without sacrificing humanity.

About ensuring that progress serves people rather than replacing them.

As someone who actively uses AI in my businesses, I found this perspective refreshing.

I do not believe technology is the enemy.

    I believe disconnection is.

    AI can amplify creativity.

    Expand accessibility.

    Accelerate innovation.

    But it cannot replace wisdom.

    Compassion.

    Presence.

    Soul.

    Technology should support our humanity.

    Not diminish it.

Perhaps one of the reasons I found myself so moved by our conversation is because Rocky and I approach similar problems through different languages.

He speaks through faith, strategy, leadership, and civic responsibility.

I speak through storytelling, visibility, healing, and reinvention.

Yet both paths ultimately lead toward the same destination:

Helping people become more fully themselves.

Because the truth is, the world does not need more copies.

    It needs more authenticity.

It needs people willing to share their stories honestly.

Leaders willing to admit they don’t have all the answers.

Entrepreneurs willing to prioritize impact alongside profit.

    Men willing to redefine strength.

    Women willing to stop shrinking.

Communities willing to prioritize connection over competition.

    That is the work.

That has always been the work.

As the founder of The Legendary Edition, I have become increasingly aware that visibility is not simply about being seen.

    It is about being understood.

It is about creating spaces where meaningful stories can inspire transformation.

For decades, traditional media has often celebrated status while overlooking substance.

Yet some of the most extraordinary people I have encountered would never make headlines.

    They are mothers.

    Teachers.

    Coaches.

    Healthcare workers.

    Small business owners.

    Artists.

    Veterans.

People quietly changing lives through consistent acts of courage and service.

    Legendary people are everywhere.

They simply need someone willing to recognize them.

Rocky’s story deserves recognition not because he claims perfection, but because he embodies possibility.

He demonstrates that leadership can coexist with vulnerability.

That faith can coexist with innovation.

That ambition can coexist with service.

And that purpose can coexist with abundance.

    This matters.

    Especially now.

Because we are living through extraordinary times.

The pace of change can feel overwhelming.

    Many people are exhausted.

    Disillusioned.

    Disconnected.

    Lonely.

They question whether their contributions matter.

Whether it is too late to start over.

Whether they have missed their opportunity.

And to those people, I offer this reminder:

It is never too late to become who you were created to be.

    You do not need permission.

You do not need perfect circumstances.

    You do not need certainty.

    You simply need willingness.

The willingness to take the next step.

The willingness to ask difficult questions.

    The willingness to evolve.

Becoming legendary is not about fame.

It is not about magazine covers.

    It is not about followers.

It is not even about success.

    Becoming legendary is about alignment.

About ensuring that your gifts, values, actions, and purpose move in the same direction.

    It is about contribution.

    It is about impact.

It is about choosing courage over comfort.

    Again and again.

As my conversation with Rocky came to a close, I found myself filled with gratitude.

Gratitude for the opportunity to witness people who refuse to settle.

Gratitude for conversations capable of creating perspective shifts.

Gratitude for the reminder that purpose still matters.

Because ultimately, that is what this work has always been about.

    Not building empires.

    Building people.

    Not accumulating attention.

    Creating transformation.

    Not chasing significance.

    Living with intention.

Perhaps that is the invitation Rocky offers.

And perhaps it is the invitation I extend through every article, every podcast episode, every magazine cover, and every conversation.

    To believe in yourself again.

    To remember who you are.

To honor the calling that refuses to leave you alone.

To understand that your experiences — even the painful ones — can become part of your contribution.

To recognize that legacy is not built someday.

    It is built daily.

    Through choices.

    Through courage.

    Through consistency.

    Through love.

The only way to never truly die is not through celebrity.

    It is through impact.

    Through the lives you touch.

    Through the hope you inspire.

    Through the example you become.

Rocky Haag reminded me of that.

And for that, I am deeply grateful.

Because in a world increasingly obsessed with appearances, there is still extraordinary power in becoming more human.

    More present.

    More purposeful.

More willing to answer the question that sits quietly beneath every meaningful life:

    Who am I becoming?

    And perhaps even more importantly:

Who might benefit if I choose not to give up?
